Not only is he the strongest uchiha.. he has so0o many diffrent connections.. he was the muzikage of the mist.. leader of uchiha.. first person to controll the kyuubi and i think he trained pain and Konan after jiraiya left them. also his sharingan is always on. (like itachi) he has good controll of his mangekyo sharingan. im sure he knows that pain will not suceed in getting naruto. he would go himself to retrive it.

But I still think, despite lacking substantial stamina, that Kakashi has been holding back a lot. I mean we've seen that he has a odd way of doing things and a sturn code of honor that he sticks to. So there may be some great mystery beyond what we are given. After all, his unnatural sharingan achieved Mangekyou(sp?) right?
